Verizon Video Goes Viral
I’m one of those people who has a Google Reader with 50 feeds separated by multiple categories. I read all of the major tech news and social media feeds as well as some obscure ones. In other words, I love the web. Never did I think or expect that I would ever receive some love in return. Surprisingly, I was wrong.
This weekend my video tutorial on how to get out of your Verizon contract without paying an early termination fee went viral. As of this post, the video has been seen on the front pages of The Consumerist, Gizmodo, Digg, Boing Boing and has received lots of traffic on SlickDeals, Howard Forums, Fat Wallet and other well known sites. The video also has over 50,000 views on YouTube. Wow. I’m honored and amazed by the popularity of a video I made in my living room with nothing more than my Macbook Pro.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in spreading this video to those who need it. I’m extremely happy that people are using this information to their advantage. I would like to credit The Consumerist and SlickDeals for giving me the basic information on this clause in the Verizon contract.
Thank you to everyone who has emailed me with questions and for that $25 rebate. I will answer each and every one of you. It just might not happen today. I’ve gotten over 200 emails from my new Verizon-free audience and would like to make sure each one of you get helped. Be patient. I’ll get to you.

I loved the video man, I have Sprint and it ain’t so well, so I might try this out on them, providing I can get the right information
Thanks to Gizmodo for showing me this site, your posts are great and I’m sure to be coming back to read them all.
Great video realy helped me out. I just stumbled onto your site looking for a way out of verizon. Now I come back every day to to read new posts.
Hey it would be really cool if Verizon actually changed their contract b/c of you. Imagine what some poor schmuck lawyer is going to do when he/she gets into the office tomorrow morning and realizes their contract has been outflanked and negated!
Congrats! I found your video on Digg and followed it to your blog. Seems like you have an interesting one here and I think I’ll hang around. I don’t need out of my Verizon contract, I’m pretty happy with their service and my Blackberry Curve, but I thought it was interesting anyhow. Would have been good to know a few years ago when I was trying to get out of my Cingular contract. Enjoy your new iPhone!
Love you video too. And are now a subscriber of you great blog here. Keep up the good work.

You’re the shiz. I never expected it to be that easy.
“You are absolutely correct, sir. I’m sorry to lose you. Have a nice day.”
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately Verizon may have caught on because they’re not directing all people trying to cancel their contract using this method to the Corporate office (at least through my experience). Supervisors won’t even take my calls anymore…
Hey, I just wanted to say thank you. Today, after 4 days of phone calls my husband and I got out of our Verizon contract. The CSRs really did use every excuse you told us to expect and we were prepared. Finally we reached an executive and in a split second got out of our contract (after spending countless minutes on hold with other reps)! YAY! I am really grateful, especially because we signed our contract in October 2006, one month before the prorated fees. We were about to have to hand over $300 to end our contract one and a half months early (which actually was necessary) and we had been with the company over 5 years. So for any doubters out there…this really does work, you just have to be strong, confident and patient!
I found the video on Digg as well and will use this technique to get out of my Verizon contact too. My question to you guys is, what carrier is better than Verizon? They all seem to have their flaws…
